I remember seeing a film that starred the great British actor, Sir Alec Guiness. He portrayed an excentric  artist (are there any other kind?) who did all of his painting in the hold of an old barge, probably on the Thames. Anyway, there was this one scene whereby Sir Alec is showing a rather large sized painting of a single foot to a visitor. What struck me about this scene and what has clung to my memory so many years later was Sir Alec’s description of the neccesity, when painting a foot, that one must become that foot and live within the existence of that foot.

I must say, that when painting the sun in this picture, I lived within and became that sun. It is too bad that this reproduction here fails to highlight the intricacies of the brushstroke and color of the relationship I shared with that celestial sphere.
